A superb fuck-ton of clothing references.

Obviously two of the images are too large to see on tumblr (because tumblr’s an asshole, sometimes), so simply reverse-image search ‘em and click on the largest size. The one on the left is quite helpful for cloth in general, and the one on the right is just for creating lace.

A helpful fuck-ton of boob references.

Note that since this contains long images that are currently fuzzy (because tumblr just doesn’t want to display ‘em clearly), you gotta reverse-image search ‘em in google. Just because it’s a little extra work doesn’t mean you oughtn’t do it; the large image on the right is totally worth the effort for female anatomy, and the one of the left is also helpful with bra things. They’re all quite helpful.

mythology - undines or water nymphs

The origin of the Undines (or Ondines) can best be traced all the way back to ancient Greece wherein mythology cites a clan of nymphs called Oceanides claimed the waters of the world as their home. The water nymphs or water spirits, belong to the Water Elemental, are are usually found in forest pools and waterfalls. They are said to have beautiful voices, which can be sometime heard singing over the sound of water that entices those that hear it. These beings are believed to be the daughters of Titan and his wife Tethys. Their presence in the oceans was legendary among seafarers. Mostly beneficent, Oceanides would aid water-travelers in navigation and provide safe sea-ways.In European lore, Undines are fabled to be the wandering spirits of love-lorn women.  According to some legends, Undines can receive a soul when they marry a human man and bear his child. This aspect of them has them to be a popular subject motif for romantic and tragic literature. Often with sailors being drawn to them by their tears of sorrow that composed the salty seas when wept having lost at love. Tales indicate that these female water spirits are enchantingly beautiful and reputed to be relatively benign, however, like most female spirits they’ve got a temper when crossed and can be force to be reckoned with.

I don't tell lies, I write fiction with my mouth!: Character Sheets and character creation →

When creating a character, there’s a lot of questions you ask yourself. Whether it’s an original character or one you’ve been playing for a long time, using a character sheet to get to know your character better can always be a nice idea. With it’s help, you’ll be able to think about things you didn’t necesarily thought about, and ask some important questions to yourself that might activate your character’s voice, or help you to get your muse back with them. Everyone has their favorite character sheets, some people prefer to have a lot of questions, some others like it a bit more vague, so here’s a masterlist of the character sheets I found on various websites and found quite interesting, plus some other things that could be used to help you see, for example, how other character view yours.

With these sheets, you could also try to find your character’s Jung and Enneagram Type or use the Moral Alignment tool. All of these things can be really useful to get a better grip on a character.

Then, if you’re trying to create a character, and do not have many ideas, or get stuck, I’d suggest for you to roam around TVTropes, which gives you a lot of tropes used for character creation. Maybe you could try to mix a few of these and create an original character?

Or, if you’re a skillful writer and know how to make your character different from another, make a list of characters in fiction you happen to find interesting and why. Try to keep it short. Then, maybe, try to mix and match things from two or three characters, take a character and change their backstory, to see what would change. Play with them to inspire yourself and create something new, original and truly yours.

Oh, and here’s a little guide to Mary-Sues and OCs, just in case you want to make sure your character isn’t going to become a Mary-Sue or a Gary-Stu

And last but not least, this article about building fictional character definitely seemed interesting to me, and is full of many other links that could guide you during the creating of your character and help you file one of these sheets.

Standardized Metro Maps Around the World (by Jug Cerovic)

French-Serbian architect Jug Cerovic has standardized international subway maps with INAT, a guideline developed to unify the global metro network with easy to read and memorize charts. Each city’s center is enlarged, to make room for the multiplicity of lines and connecting stations. A standard set of symbols is applied to each map including the line colors, stations, connections and station labeling. Angles are gently curved for a smooth familiar look and linear paths are represented vertically, horizontally, or 45, with no more than 5 bends on their entire length. Highly representative shapes are used for specific ubran features: a ring for Moscow and Paris, a parallelogram for London, and regularly spaced parallel lines for gridded street patterns like new York. All text is labelled in both local and latin characters and are legible on small sized prints for pocket use and suitable for display on a wide array of supports.

An epic fuck-ton of heavy-set human references.

Just as a side note, keep in mind that when designing/drawing someone who’s hefty, there are two types of obesity: (A) Where someone’s metabolism is hereditarily weak and they eat loads of food that bloats them, and (B) when someone is aging and the bloating happens without their diet changing much. Both situations produce different kinds of corporeal formations, as the latter tends to have a more muscular/shapely form. This isn’t always true, but it’s worth keeping in mind when you’re searching for more images. There’s a difference between a fat older guy who was army-fit in his youth and a guy who sits on the couch eating cake and Doritos every night while watching Fox News. Chubbiness due to aging and laziness are two very different things, visually.

A gracious fuck-ton of bovine anatomy references.

It’s pretty self-explanatory, but be sure you’re aware of the differences between cows and bulls… cows are these oddly geometric, boney, walking hamburgers. Bulls are like the jackass in class who does nothing but pump iron for a living. And then eats raw steroids and testosterone on top of that. Cartoon bulls aren’t as exaggerated as you’d think. (Unless they’re the kind solely bred to mate with the cows we eat.) I mean, seriously guys, look at these motherfuckers:
